New to church

Whether you're used to going to church or have never been before, going to a service for the first time can be daunting. Churches are all different, so here's a flavour of what it's like at Emmanuel on a Sunday.

Sunday morning

On Sunday morning we meet at North Leamington School (the way in is marked by a board dsplaying our logo). to get to the entrance, you'll need to walk between the buildings to the doors at the back.  We want you to feel welcome from the moment you arrive, so you'll be met by a steward who will greet you and hand you some information. If you have children, they will point out where the crèche and Sunday school take place, before directing you through to the main theatre, for our main meeting.

As you enter the hall, another steward will greet you. Bibles and hymn books are available here, should you need them, although the songs are all projected onto a big screen at the front. Feel free to sit wherever you feel comfortable; there is staged seating, and some chairs at the front with easier access for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

The service's format is easy to follow, it's obvious when to stand or sit, and there is no liturgy. We sing a mixture of contemporary and classic songs and hymns, hear about and pray for church family news, have updates on ministry and mission, and listen to a talk on a Bible passage. The children join us for the first part of the meeting and then, when directed, go to the dining hall for some singing together, followed by Sunday school, with age appropriate Bible teaching. Visiting children of primary age are welcome to join, just ask a steward to direct you or follow the crowd.

After the meeting, we go through to the dining hall and enjoy a chat and some refreshments, so there should be plenty of opportunities to start getting to know people.  If you have any questions about Emmanuel, feel free to speak to a steward, or any church member.

Sunday evening

Our evening services take place in the more informal environment of our church building, and follow a similar format to the morning meeting: the only real difference is that we don't run a Sunday school for children, although they're welcome to join us for the evening service. Alternatively we have a lounge with some books and toys for you to use if needed.

Having read this page, we hope this gives you a better idea of what to expect! If you have any questions, please get in touch.
